Laundry Costs in Manila, KL, and Singapore: A Practical Comparison

Side-by-side laundry pricing across Manila, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore

When LaundryAtlas started expanding into Malaysia and Singapore, I got curious. I've always had a clear mental picture of what laundry costs in Manila because that's home. I also picked up a rough sense from my two trips to KL. But Singapore was mostly a reference point I'd built from friends who live or work there, and from research once LaundryAtlas started covering that market.

So when I had the chance to pull together actual numbers across all three cities, I took it. What I found was more variation than I expected, and not always in the direction you might assume.

Here is a side-by-side look at what you can expect to pay for laundry in Manila, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore, broken down by service type and what you are actually getting for your money.

Manila: The Full-Service Standard

In the Philippines, and Metro Manila in particular, the dominant laundry model is full-service by the kilo. You drop off your clothes, they wash, dry, and fold everything, and you pick it up the next day.

Typical pricing in Metro Manila (2025 to 2026):

Service TypePrice Range
Full-service (wash, dry, fold)PHP 65 to PHP 120 per kilo
Express or same-day servicePHP 100 to PHP 150 per kilo
Dry cleaning (per piece)PHP 150 to PHP 600 depending on garment
Self-service wash (per load)PHP 50 to PHP 80

A typical load for one person covering three to four days of clothes weighs roughly three to four kilos. At standard rates, that comes to PHP 200 to PHP 480 per trip, or roughly USD 3.50 to USD 8.50.

Self-service laundromats exist in Manila but are less common than in KL or Singapore. Coin laundry is growing in popularity, particularly in BGC, Makati, and near universities, but full-service drop-off is still the norm in most neighbourhoods.

Kuala Lumpur: The Self-Service Leader

KL operates a dual market. Full-service laundry shops are common, especially in older commercial areas. But the self-service laundromat sector is where KL really stands out.

Typical pricing in KL (2025 to 2026):

Service TypePrice Range
Full-service (wash, dry, fold)RM 4 to RM 8 per kilo
Self-service wash (per cycle)RM 5 to RM 8
Self-service dry (per 15 to 20 min)RM 3 to RM 5
Full self-service cycle (wash and dry)RM 10 to RM 15
Dry cleaning (per piece)RM 15 to RM 50

Converting to Philippine peso for comparison, RM 1 is approximately PHP 11.50 to PHP 12.50 as of mid-2025. A full self-service cycle in KL at RM 12 works out to roughly PHP 138 to PHP 150, or approximately PHP 35 to PHP 45 per kilo equivalent. That is cheaper than full-service Manila pricing, but requires your own time.

Full-service KL laundry at RM 6 per kilo translates to roughly PHP 69 to PHP 75 per kilo, which is comparable to the lower end of Manila pricing.

Singapore: Premium Pricing, High Consistency

Singapore is the most expensive of the three, which comes as no surprise given the city's cost of living. What is notable is the quality and consistency of laundry services, which tends to be uniformly high across both service types.

Typical pricing in Singapore (2025 to 2026):

Service TypePrice Range
Full-service (wash, dry, fold)SGD 5 to SGD 8 per kilo
Self-service wash (per cycle)SGD 3 to SGD 5
Self-service dry (per cycle)SGD 2 to SGD 4
Full self-service cycle (wash and dry)SGD 7 to SGD 10
Dry cleaning (per piece)SGD 10 to SGD 30

SGD 1 is approximately PHP 40 to PHP 42 as of mid-2025. A full-service kilo of laundry in Singapore at SGD 6.50 works out to approximately PHP 260 to PHP 275, which is roughly two to three times what you'd pay in Manila for the same service.

What Drives the Price Differences?

A few factors explain the gap between cities:

  • โ†’Labour costs. Full-service laundry in Manila is affordable largely because labour costs are lower relative to KL and Singapore. In Singapore, labour costs are among the highest in Southeast Asia, and that difference is visible in the price per kilo.
  • โ†’Real estate. A laundry shop in Singapore or central KL is paying significantly higher rent than a shop in Quezon City or Pasig. That cost flows through to the customer.
  • โ†’Service model. The prevalence of self-service in KL and Singapore means the price you see is often machine time only. Full-service in Manila includes human labour, which frequently makes it better value for busy travelers who don't want to sit in a laundromat waiting.
  • โ†’Market competition. Manila has a very high density of laundry shops, particularly in residential areas. That competition keeps prices down.

Which City Gives You the Best Value?

It depends on what you actually want.

If you want the best price per kilo for someone else to do the work, Manila wins easily. Full-service laundry in the Philippines is genuinely affordable by any regional standard, and the convenience of drop-off and pickup is hard to beat.

If you want the flexibility to do it yourself on your own schedule without depending on a shop's hours, KL's self-service infrastructure is excellent and reasonably priced. The machines are modern, payment is easy, and options are everywhere.

If you want the most reliable and consistent experience with predictable hours and well-maintained equipment, Singapore delivers that. At a significant price premium, but the experience is seamless.

For travelers moving between all three cities, the practical advice is straightforward: do your laundry in Manila or KL. Save your Singapore budget for the experiences that are unique to that city.
